Why Flat Paint Works Best
Why Flat Paint Works Best
If there is one rule for suede paint, it is this: always use flat paint. The sheen of your base paint has a bigger impact on your final result than almost any other factor.
What Makes Flat Paint Different
Flat paint has a porous, non-reflective surface that allows Wall FX to bond properly and build authentic texture. Its matte finish absorbs the additive evenly, creating the soft, light-diffusing quality that defines a true suede look.
What Happens With Sheen Paints
Eggshell, satin, and semi-gloss paints have a smoother, more sealed surface. When you apply Wall FX over these finishes, the texture does not adhere as well and the result looks flat and unconvincing rather than rich and dimensional.
The Bottom Line
- Flat paint: ideal for suede texture
- Eggshell: not recommended
- Satin: not recommended
- Semi-gloss or gloss: avoid entirely
Stick with flat and your Wall FX finish will look exactly as intended.
