What Is Movement in Suede Paint?
Movement refers to the visual flow and variation in the texture. A finish with good movement catches light from multiple angles and appears to shift subtly as you move around the room. It looks handcrafted and intentional rather than uniform.
Techniques to Increase Movement
- Vary your stroke length โ mix short, choppy strokes with longer sweeping ones.
- Change your wrist angle โ rotating your wrist slightly as you brush creates natural curves in the texture.
- Use a nearly dry brush โ after applying paint, go back over the section with a dry brush using light, sweeping strokes to blend and add flow.
- Layer in different directions โ each coat can go in a slightly different direction to build depth.
Less Is More
Overworking the paint actually reduces movement. Apply your strokes with intention, then leave the section alone. The texture you see when the paint is wet will soften and deepen as it dries.
