How Much Paint Do I Need?

How Much Paint Do I Need?

One of the most common questions before starting a suede paint project is how much paint to buy. Here is a simple guide to help you estimate correctly.

Standard Coverage

As a general rule, one gallon of flat paint covers approximately 350 to 400 square feet with a single coat. With Wall FX, plan for two coats to build full suede texture, so one gallon typically covers 175 to 200 square feet for a finished result.

How to Calculate Your Wall Area

  1. Measure the width and height of each wall in feet.
  2. Multiply width by height to get square footage per wall.
  3. Add all walls together, then subtract doors and windows (roughly 20 square feet each).
  4. Divide by 175 to 200 for a two-coat suede finish.

Pro Tip

Always buy slightly more than you think you need. Having extra paint on hand lets you touch up any areas after the project is complete without worrying about color matching later.
