Common Application Mistakes

Even with the best product, a few common mistakes can affect your final result. Here is what to watch out for so your Wall FX finish looks its best.

Using the Wrong Paint

Using eggshell, satin, or any paint with sheen is the number one mistake. Always use flat paint. Sheen paints prevent Wall FX from bonding properly and will result in a weak, unconvincing texture.

Applying Too Much Product at Once

Loading your brush too heavily leads to drips, uneven texture, and a finish that looks overdone. Use a moderate amount of paint and build up in thin layers.

Working in Large Sections

Trying to cover too much wall at once causes the paint to dry before you can blend the edges. Work in small 2 to 3 square foot sections and blend as you go.

Painting in One Direction Only

Consistent, uniform strokes eliminate the randomness that makes suede look authentic. Vary your stroke direction constantly for a natural, organic result.

Rushing Between Coats

Applying a second coat before the first is fully dry will lift the texture and create a muddy, uneven finish. Always wait at least two hours between coats.
